As-Suyuti’s Medicine of the Prophet [Tibb an-Nabbi]
Written nearly five hundred years ago and now translated into easily readable English, this unique work gives a fascinating insight into the ancient, but still applicable, art of Prophetic medicine and an understanding of what constitutes and causes disease and healing. The author gives a detailed description of both physical and spiritual diseases and their remedies, drawing from both the Quran and from the wisdom of the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace.
AS-SUYUTI was born in 848AH/1445CE in Upper Egypt. He became a scholar of the Muslim sciences and wrote many books on a variety of subjects, of which Tibb an-Nabbi was one of the most popular. It is clear from his writings that his knowledge of medicine was not merely academic, but based on sound practice and experience. It is equally clear from his work that the art of medicine and the gift of healing are not merely the result of experimentation, but a divinely revealed science whose results are ultimately and essentially the outcome of the mercy and decree of Allah: And when I am sick, He heals me. (Quran 26:80)
