هذا الكتاب سطر فيه اخبار شيوخ الحنابلة أصحاب الامام الافضل ابي عبد الله احمد بن محمد بن حنبل. هذا الكتاب بمثابة معجم شامل لعلماء المذهب الحنبلي . والكتاب يربط بين علماء الاسرة الواحدة بين الرجل وابائه واولاده واحفاده واخوانه وذوي قرابته ففتح الباب لمن اراد التوسع في معرفة الاسر العلمية وقد حوت الحواشي وهوامش الكتاب فوائد عن مولفات المترجم ونماذج من اشعاره ان وجدت. ولقد اضاف الشيخ عبد الرحمن بعض الاستدراكات على المولف رحمه الله مما فاته ذكره وامكن استدراكه واورد هذه الاستدراكات في صحيح مواضعها من الكتاب حسب ترتيب المولف ليكون الكتاب قريبا من باب الكمال في استيعاب اغلب تراجم هذه الفترة وليكون جمعهم اسهاما في وضع هذا المعجم التراجمي الشامل
