وهو مع هذا أعنق في ذكر المِلَح والغرائب، وأضاف إلى ذلك نقل أشعار ماجنة، فاعتبر هذا الصنيع من المآخذ عليه رغم نفاسته، وودَّ الفقهاء لو خلا هذا الكتاب المفيد مما يعيب.
فقام إمامنا الدَّميري رحمه الله باختصار «شرح الصفدي» وتهذيبه؛ ليتعاظم الانتفاع بفوائد الأصل.
فجرده من الأشعار الخليعة، وحذف منه تديُّناً تلك الأقاصيص الشنيعة.
ثم إنه قام إليه ونقّحه، وهذّبه ودبّجه، واصطفى منه كل أبيات رائقة، وأدبيات شائقة، تهتزُّ لها الأفئدة فرحاً وطرباً، وتطرب لها المسامع تأثراً، فلم يدع لأحد بعده مقالاً.
وحينما عزمت دار المنهاج على إخراج هذه التحفة الأدبية إلى عالم المطبوعات، وإهدائها إلى الناطقين بالضاد.. وكّلت تحقيقها إلى لجنتها الموقرة، ذات الكفاءة العلمية والهمم العليّة، وذات الخبرة الأدبية، وسعة الاطلاع في علوم العربية، المضطلعة في هذا الفن.
فكان – ولله الحمد والمنة – أن تمَّ إخراج الكتاب في حلية التحقيق، والضبط والتدقيق، مشفوعاً بحلل فن الطباعة، ومتوّجاً بتاج الأناقة؛ لأن صفة الإتقان من أهدافها الأولية.

“It is not at all an innovation to refer to Ahlus-Sunnah as the Salafiyyoon. Rather, the legislative usage of ‘as-Salaf’ corresponds completely with the legislative usage of ‘Ahlus-Sunnah wal-Jamaa’ah.’ That is ascertained by contemplating upon the consensus of all of the linguists regarding the Companions. For they (the Companions) are the Salaf and they are Ahlus-Sunnah wal-Jamaa’ah. So just as it is correct for us to say: “Sunnee,” as an ascription to Ahlus-Sunnah, it is also correct for us to say:“Salafee,” as an ascription to the Salaf; there is no difference.”
A hot topic amongst Muslims today, ‘What is Salafiyyah?’ ‘Who are the Salafees?’ Shaykh ‘Abdus-Salaam as-Suhaymee elucidates this often misunderstood topic. The author begins by explaining the linguistic and legislative meaning of as-Sunnah, listing and clarifying the various legislative names for Ahlus-Sunnah. The legislative meaning of ‘as-Salaf’ is expounded upon, and who is considered to be from the Salafus-Saalih is clearly explained. He clarifies why one should openly manifest the madh-hab of the Salafus-Saalih, name oneself with as-Salafiyyah, and brings some of the evidences of why it is obligatory to follow and cling to this noble madh-hab. Other topics explained includes, the manhaj of the Salafus-Saalih in ‘aqeedah in contrast to the manhaj of the People of Desires. He concludes with a brief explanation of the position of the Salafus-Saalih in refuting the innovators and provides guidance on how Ahlus-Sunnah should deal with the People of Desires.
