ABOUT THE BOOK:
This work is very small and unique in the sense that it deals with allot of names and popular terminologies used in islamic studies. Imam Nawawi compiled this work in the hope to assist those that want to utilise a reference work that isnt too exhaustive. Among the subjects covered are:
– Biographical Layers (Tarajim): Various selective individuals that have contributed towards Islamic studies development or simply has been a component in Islamic advancement, be they companions, Tabi’in or simply Mujtahids in the various schools of law (specially that of the Shafi’is)
– Juristic Linguistics (Lughatil Fiqh): He has explained the commonly used terms in the schools of law or juristic manuals. He has expounded the meanings of some of the problematic terms that has seen much debates, such as; al-Bid’ah (innovation).
– Geographical names: He has detailed the whereabouts of many cities or popularly known areas of those days due to various popular characters being named after them or historic sites.

The order of this work is as follows:
FIRST:- He will mention names. Be they Muslims, non-Muslims. The order of the names are;
* Names of Men,
* Names of Women,
The names are ordered in alphabetical order except where he starts with the Prophet name (SAW) and then followed by Imam ash-Shafi’i.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR:
Imam Muhyi ddin Abi Zakariyah Yahya ibn Sharaf al-Nawawi Al-Dimashqi knows simply as Imam Nawawi was Born in the village of Nawa in Southern Syria, Imam Nawawi spent most of his life in Damascus where he lived in a simple manner, devoted to Allah, engaging single-mindedly in worship, study, writing and teaching various Islamic sciences. Although best known for his works in hadith, Yahya ibn Sharaf al-Nawawi (d. 676/1277) was also the Imam of the later Shafi’i school of Jurisprudence, and widely acknowledged as the intellectual heir to Imam Shafi’i. He was a renowned scholar and jurist who dedicated his life to the pursuit of Islamic learning. Imam Nawawi died at the young age of 44 years, leaving behind him numerous works of great Imam Nawawi is well known for books which are easy to understand ‘…He has not placed any hardship upon you in religion…’ [TM Qur’an 22:78] ‘Whenever you speak to the people of something their mind cannot comprehend, it could lead some of them towards fitna ‘ (Muslim)
